The Ibis
The first time I was in Australia my husband and I called the ibis “the garbage bird”,
’cause it was always emptying the bins in the cities looking for food.
It’s actually a beautiful and quite a majestic bird.
The ibis was sacred in ancient Egypt, and was part of the Egyptian alphabet.
Herodotus (484–425 BC) a Greek historian, renowned as “the Father of History” and a geographer and ethnologist.
After a visit to Arabia, he told that the winged snakes every spring flew from Arabia to Egypt, where ibises gathered and killed them.
